Recently, our Val & Mike’s Auto Repair 2005 Honda CRV was subject to the massive 33.8 million vehicle airbag recall. I am one of the lucky ones that got my airbag repaired immediately after I received the recall letter. The letter was concerning as I read the first sentence stating my vehicle can kill me and my passenger if the airbag diploids. As many of you know, I utilize my Honda to take my customers home, so to continue to drive it was not an option until it was fixed.
Honda Corporation was very helpful in resolving my problem. As I explained to Honda the concerns of the liability issues associated driving my car, they were the first to recommend a rent-a-car until the recall part was available and installed. Though the Honda Dealer had my car for 32 days waiting for the backordered driver side and passenger replacement parts, it was reassuring that the Honda Corporation stood behind their responsibility and diligently worked on resolving the problem.
The Takata Corporation’s defective airbag system is the largest recall in history, not only affecting Hondas, but Nissans, Mitsubishi, Toyota, Acura’s and five other car manufacturers. This is a recall that should not be taken lightly and I encourage you, if you did not get a recall letter, to go to Recalls.gov or contact your vehicle’s local dealer to confirm if your vehicle is part of the recall and/or to schedule to have the parts replaced. At least six fatalities and more than 100 injuries have been linked to the faulty airbag systems and you can get more details ratchetand wrench.com.
