Internet Search for Auto Repair Huntington Beach
In these days of the internet, information is easy to find. Google and Bing search engines are busy 24/7 looking up that recipe you saw or the story you heard about your favorite celebrity. We look up the lyrics to songs because we can’t quite understand what the singer is saying. We look up who starred in the TV show in the 60’s. All the information you could ever want is literally in the palm of your hand. However, sometimes that isn’t always the best solution. For example:
1. Diagnosing your own check engine light
If you searched on line for diagnosing a check engine light, several sites will tell you that you can purchase a code reader at your local Walmart for as little as $50. That will tell you the code that is in the computer. Then you can search that code online to find out what it means. Let’s say you have a code P0301 – a misfire in cylinder #1. You would then be directed to replace your spark plugs and wires.
The customer then walks in to their local repair shop and asks for a tune up. Some shops will just do as you ask and replace your spark plugs and wires. If the light comes back on after that repair the customer is going to be upset that the shop didn’t fix their car.
A good service writer will ask why they think they need a tune up. When the customer says the check engine light is on they can then take the opportunity to explain about the check engine light and how a true diagnostic is done. Sometimes that code can mean there is a leak in the intake and even the best spark plugs in the world would never fix that problem.
2. Pricing for parts
Here at Val & Mike’s Auto Repair we have reputable parts dealers that we work with. We know that we are getting reliable parts and they will stand behind them if there is a problem. These parts dealers are local and we can usually get parts in a couple of hours, usually faster.
It is very easy to look up that alternator on the internet and find in on Amazon or Ebay for a lower price. We could order parts online. That is true. But then the customer would have to wait for the part to be shipped to us. And if there is a problem with the part, it is bad or it is the wrong one, then we have to return it and have another one shipped. This process can add days to the repair, not only depriving the customer of using the vehicle, but also tying up our rack and losing business for the technician and the shop. Paying a little more for a local part allows us to get the job done faster and stand behind it with a 24 month, 24k mile warranty.
Find a shop you can trust
This is why it is so important to find a shop that you trust to take care of your car. When you have a problem like a check engine light, you know that they will use all the tools at their disposal to diagnose your car accurately and repair it as efficiently as possible. You can trust that they are getting the best parts for your car and for the best price they can find. You will have a partner to keep your car safe and reliable for years to come.
