Misunderstandings are common in the auto repair industry. Part of the problem is the terminology used in the repair shop. For example a tune up to one customer is changing out the spark plugs and wires; yet to another customer they just want a standard oil service and maintenance. We do our best to ask questions to find out exactly what the customer is in need of, but sometimes we still misunderstand. Other times the customer doesn’t want to answer questions just requests a certain service, and is upset if that service does not fix the problem.
The best way to help your auto repair shop and avoid a misunderstanding is to explain the problem you are trying to solve. Is your vehicle hard to start in the morning but after it warms up the problem goes away? Do you hear a noise when going down the road or does it happen all the time? You have a vibration but you only feel it at freeway speeds? This is the kind of information that your service writer needs to know. Describing the problem and then explaining the result you hope to get will so much more than telling the service writer the service you think you need. It will avoid disappointment and hard feeling if you are clear about what you want to occur as a result of the repair, and you’ll get better service.
