My 2005 Mazda MPV needed a smog check but the check engine light was on. I found Val & Mike’s Auto Repair while searching for a licensed smog repair shop. I took my car in and talked with Mike. He explained the process for diagnosing my car and felt very comfortable leaving my car with him. The ASE certified smog repair technician began the diagnostic on my car. They found that it had a misfire in cylinder #5 but the coil was new. They checked to make sure the coil was good along with the spark plug and found they were both functioning properly. Next they did a compression test and found the compression was low in cylinder #5. Then they performed a leak down test and looked into the cylinder with a camera and found that the valve was burnt. I needed a valve job. Mike called to check on the referee program and found out that after spending $650 in diagnostic and repairs I could take my car to the referee station and possible get a waiver for 2 years to complete repairs to pass smog. I really appreciated that service. Some shops would have told me I had to have all the expensive repairs completed. It is refreshing to find an honest repair shop that takes care of it’s customers. And when I’m ready to complete those repairs I will absolutely take my Mazda back to Mike! Mary W.
