When Matt heard a rattling noise coming from his engine he knew it wasn’t normal. He gets his oil changed regularly and checks the level in between oil changes so he knew it wasn’t because it was low on oil. He brought his Ford F150 in for the technician to check. They found that the noise was coming from the timing chain. The timing chain controls the cam shaft at the top of the engine opening and closing the valves which allow the fuel mix in and then the exhaust out at the proper time. Since Matt uses his truck for his construction business he needed to make sure that it is in great working order. Matt authorized the replacement of his timing chain and components.
When the technician removed the timing cover to access the chain he found that the tensioners were worn. This was caused the chain to have improper tension and thus created the rattling noise Matt had heard. After replacing the chain and the tensioners the noise was gone. Matt was very satisfied with his repair and that his truck no longer announced his arrival!
