Variable Valve Timing Check Engine Light
While on vacation in the mountains with my 2008 Toyota 4Runner the check engine light came on. I was far from Val & Mike’s Auto Repair so I called Mike and told him what was going on. He asked if the engine was running rough or if I noticed anything different. After answering all his questions he determined that it was not an emergency and I could wait to bring it in when I was back in town.
When I returned I took my car right to the shop to have the check engine light specialists diagnose the problem. It turned out the car had variable valve timing code. After an inspection they found that the oil was very dirty and overdue for changing which causes the variable valve timing solenoid to malfunction and turn on the check engine light. After the oil was changed in my engine they rechecked the system to insure that there were no other fault codes.
It is very reassuring to be able to call the shop and talk to Mike about the situation and he doesn’t make everything seem like a dire emergency. This way when something is important I know it is and not just a sales tactic. That’s just one of the many reasons I take my car to Val & Mike’s Auto Repair Huntington Beach. Dr. Mark Yamamoto
