Water pump function
Everyone knows they have a water pump in their engine, and they know that if it leaks it needs to be replaced. But do you know what your water pump does?
The water pump moves coolant from the radiator through the coolant system, into the engine and back around to the radiator. The heat that the coolant picked up from the engine is transferred to the air at the radiator.
If the water pump is not functioning, the coolant just sits in the system. The engine will likely overheat which can cause serious damage to the engine. Check your owner’s manual to find out when it is suggested that the water pump be replaced.
